The home is shared with the owner. The only private space is the bedroom. This creates a weird dynamic as the owner had his own guests coming for dinner while we were supposed to stay there. We did not stay as we did not feel comfortable at all.

Comfortable two night stay midwinter with a friendly cat. Lovely quiet safe area. Easy parking. The fire was welcoming and the electric blanket appreciated. Great start to day with porridge and tea. We enjoyed conversations with Martin, the generous host.

Martin was a lovely host; we were very comfortable and enjoyed good conversation with him. Martin's home is in a beautiful location with dramatic natural views.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Magpie Cottage, having just completed cycling the Timber Trail.
Martin is a friently and engaging host - easy to talk to but unintrusive and made us feel at home.
He has a beautifully maintained home with a recently renovated bathroom, comfortable bed and pleasant outlook. The complementary continental breakfast was just what we needed.

Great room in a shared house in a quiet peaceful part of Tamarunui, just a short walk to all the restaurants. Martin is an excellent host and a fine chap.

During my recent stay at Magpie Cottage in Taumarunui, I was thoroughly impressed by the exceptional hospitality.
I was impressed by my room. The shared lounge, dining, and kitchen areas made me feel right at home.

We booked a studio with two rooms, a private bathroom + toilet, and a shared kitchen, as described in the homepage and in booking.com. However, on arrival we were only assigned one room and told, that the bathroom would be shared. In response to our protest, we were given a brochure, according to which the bathroom would be shared, and not private. We found an acceptable motel nearby.

Lovely cottage and great host. The bed was super comfortable and there was no traffic noise. Bathroom was newly appointed with underfloor heating. Off street parking was good and I was able to put my cycle in the garage. Breakfast was perfect. Thank you Martin

I have stayed in many different types of accommodation around NZ and Magpie cottage is the best I have experienced so far. The room is immaculate and warm with nice attention to detail. Very comfortable bed and quiet at night. Bathroom and living spaces are similarly well-appointed and very enjoyable to be in.
The location is not far from the main shopping area - an easy 5 minute drive gets you to the centre of town.
Martin is the consummate host and I am sure to return again.

The room was very clean and bed comfortable.

What a fantastic experience! Great host and very comfortable room and house and the ambience! Artists to chat to and invitations to join in ..I extended my stay because I enjoyed it so much!
